Arts and Humanities Grants support organizations in Maine that present stories and cultural expressions of the state, its communities, and its people. Projects can be in any discipline and on any scale but must include both arts and humanities aspects. The grant is co-administered by The Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Humanities Council. Offers recent PhD graduates the chance to help develop research tools, resources, and services while exploring new career opportunities. Host institutions benefit from fellows' field-specific expertise by gaining insights into their collections' potential uses and users, scholarly information behaviors, and current teaching and learning practices within particular disciplines.

The Fund awards grants for specific research projects to full-time faculty members on continuing appointment in any department or division of the University. Preference is given to first-time applicants and to applicants who do not have other current research grants at the institution. On behalf of the Society for the Humanities, the Humanities Council awards grants of up to $5, (NEW!) for research in the humanities from a fund provided by the Vice Provost for Research. Faculty members holding regular appointments in humanities departments (including tenured, tenure-track, and professors of the practice) are eligible to apply.

About New-Model Humanities Publication: The new ecology of scholarly communication is upending the legacy print system of book publishing in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. University presses, aided by Mellon-funded projects exploring the challenges and possible models for infrastructure, preservation, and economic sustainability. Find details about every creative writing competition—including poetry contests, short story competitions, essay contests, awards for novels, grants for translators, and more—that we’ve published in the Grants & Awards section of Poets & Writers Magazine during the past year. We carefully review the practices and policies of each contest before including it in the Writing Contests.
